Activity Overview

Zappeion Hall is one of Athens’ most distinguished historic buildings, located in the National Garden near the Panathenaic Stadium. Commissioned by Evangelis Zappas, the building was created to support the revival of the Olympic tradition and was inaugurated in 1888.

Designed by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen, Zappeion is an elegant example of Neoclassical architecture, featuring a distinctive circular atrium surrounded by Corinthian columns and beautifully landscaped grounds. Its construction was closely connected with the Zappas Olympiads, sporting and cultural events that took place in Athens during the 19th century.

Over the years, Zappeion has hosted important political, cultural and social events and has played a significant role in modern Greek history. Today, it remains a prominent venue for conferences, exhibitions and official events, while its architecture and surrounding gardens make it a notable stop for visitors exploring central Athens.
