Activity Overview

Topkapı Palace is one of Istanbul’s most important historic landmarks and the former imperial residence of the Ottoman sultans. Located on the Sarayburnu overlooking the Bosphorus, the palace was commissioned by Sultan Mehmed II after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople and developed from the 15th century onward.

The palace complex consists of courtyards, pavilions, gardens and richly decorated chambers, reflecting the power and traditions of the Ottoman Empire. Visitors can explore historic collections containing manuscripts, imperial treasures, weapons, ceramics and religious artefacts, as well as the famous Harem section.

Topkapı Palace also offers impressive views over the Bosphorus, Golden Horn and Sea of Marmara, making it both a significant historical site and a spectacular viewpoint in Istanbul.

Today, Topkapı Palace is a museum and forms part of Istanbul’s historic heritage, offering visitors an insight into Ottoman imperial life, art and architecture.
