Activity Policies
- Entry: Te Puia is a ticketed cultural and geothermal attraction in Rotorua. Admission provides access to its geothermal valley, Māori cultural experiences, and other included attractions.
- Booking: Advance booking is recommended, particularly during weekends, holidays, and peak tourist periods. Certain cultural performances and experiences may operate at scheduled times.
- Opening Hours: Operating hours vary according to the current daily schedule, special events, and operational requirements.
- Duration: Visitors should generally allow 2–4 hours to explore the geothermal valley, Māori cultural attractions, carving and weaving displays, and other experiences.
- Geothermal Area: Visitors must remain on designated pathways and viewing areas and follow all safety signage around geothermal features.
- Photography: Photography and video recording are generally permitted in many areas for personal use, but restrictions may apply during cultural performances or in designated cultural spaces.
- Cultural Respect: Visitors should show respect for Māori culture, traditions, performances, sacred places, and cultural objects and follow instructions from guides and staff.
- Safety: Guests must not enter restricted geothermal areas or approach thermal pools, vents, mud pools, or geysers outside designated viewing areas.
- Children: Children should remain under appropriate adult supervision, particularly around geothermal features and walking paths.
- Accessibility: Accessible facilities are available in many areas, although some geothermal paths and natural terrain may have uneven surfaces or slopes.
- Weather Conditions: Outdoor walking and viewing areas may be affected by rain, strong winds, extreme weather, or temporary safety restrictions.
- Wildlife & Environment: Visitors should remain on marked paths and must not touch geothermal features, plants, rocks, or other natural materials.
- Food & Beverages: Food and beverages are available at designated facilities. Visitors should follow venue rules regarding outside food and drinks.
- Cancellation/Refund: Cancellation and refund conditions depend on the ticket type, experience, and booking terms. Special cultural experiences may have separate conditions.
- Changes to Experience: Cultural performances, geothermal viewing areas, schedules, or other activities may change because of weather, cultural considerations, maintenance, safety requirements, or operational circumstances.
- Important: Te Puia is renowned for its geothermal valley, Pohutu Geyser, Māori cultural experiences, traditional carving and weaving, and New Zealand's national Māori arts and crafts heritage. Visitors should check the latest operating schedule and experience availability before visiting.
Terms & Conditions
- Admission is subject to a valid ticket or confirmed booking.
- Visitors must check in at least 15 minutes before their scheduled tour departure time.
- Guests must follow the instructions of Te Puia guides, staff and authorised personnel.
- Visitors must remain on formed paths and designated visitor routes and must not cross safety barriers or enter restricted geothermal areas.
- Guests must follow all geothermal safety instructions and emergency procedures.
- Visitors should exercise particular caution around hot pools, geysers, steam vents, boiling mud and other geothermal features.
- Children must remain under the supervision of an accompanying adult.
- Visitors must not touch, remove or interfere with geothermal features, rocks, plants, cultural objects or site structures.
- Visitors must not enter areas marked restricted or closed.
- Appropriate comfortable footwear is recommended for walking around the geothermal valley.
- Te Puia is a smoke-free venue, including restrictions on e-cigarettes and vapourisers.
- Photography and filming may be subject to site, cultural and operational restrictions; visitors must follow staff instructions.
- Commercial photography, professional filming and drone operations may require prior permission and appropriate arrangements.
- Visitors must respect Māori cultural practices, performances, artworks and heritage areas.
- Guided tours and cultural experiences may be modified or unavailable because of weather, health and safety concerns or unforeseen circumstances.
- Visitors are responsible for their personal belongings.
- Booking changes must generally be requested at least 48 hours before the booked experience; groups of 10 or more require 72 hours' notice, subject to availability.
- Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the experience are refundable; for groups of 10 or more, the cancellation deadline is 72 hours. Cancellations within these periods are non-refundable.
- Late arrival or missed tours are non-refundable. Te Puia may try to accommodate late guests on a later experience, subject to availability.
- If Te Puia cancels an experience because of health and safety concerns, weather or unforeseen circumstances, the guest is entitled to a full refund under the stated booking policy.
- Refunds for eligible cancellations are issued in New Zealand dollars and may be subject to currency-exchange fluctuations.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations or changes to Te Puia bookings must be requested by phone or email at least 48 hours before the scheduled experience. For groups of 10 or more, at least 72 hours’ notice is required. Cancellations made within the applicable notice period are non-refundable. If Te Puia cancels the experience due to weather, health and safety concerns, or unforeseen circumstances, guests will receive a full refund. Late arrivals or missed tours are non-refundable.
