Activity Policies
- Entry: Fraser Island, officially known as K’gari, is a World Heritage-listed island. Visitors entering the national park require the applicable Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service park access arrangements.
- Booking: Advance booking is recommended for accommodation, 4WD tours, vehicle permits, camping areas, and organised beach activities.
- Beach Access: Many beaches are accessible by 4WD vehicles, but access depends on tides, weather, road conditions, and current park restrictions.
- Opening Hours: Beach and park access is subject to national park operating conditions, tides, weather, and temporary closures.
- Duration: Visitors can spend several hours or a full day exploring the beaches, coastal scenery, and nearby natural attractions.
- Swimming: Swimming is not recommended at many exposed ocean beaches because of strong currents, rips, marine wildlife, and changing sea conditions. Visitors should follow local safety advice and use designated safer swimming locations where available.
- Photography: Photography and video recording are generally permitted for personal use. Visitors should maintain a safe distance from wildlife.
- Driving: 4WD drivers must hold the appropriate vehicle permit and follow tide times, speed limits, designated tracks, and beach-driving regulations.
- Wildlife: Visitors must not feed or approach dingoes or other wildlife. Food should be stored securely and all wildlife-safety instructions must be followed.
- Accessibility: Accessibility varies considerably along the island's beaches and tracks. Sand, dunes, tides, and uneven terrain can limit access for visitors with reduced mobility.
- Weather & Tides: Beach access and activities can be significantly affected by tides, strong winds, storms, heavy rain, and rough seas.
- Environmental Protection: Visitors must not litter, disturb wildlife, damage vegetation, remove natural materials, or drive outside designated areas.
- Cancellation/Refund: Park permits, camping reservations, tours, and other paid activities are subject to the respective operator or Queensland Parks cancellation and refund conditions.
- Changes to Access: Beaches, tracks, camping areas, or other locations may be temporarily closed because of weather, erosion, flooding, wildlife management, conservation work, or safety concerns.
- Important: K’gari's beaches are renowned for their long sandy coastline, clear waters, dunes, and spectacular coastal landscapes. Visitors should check current park alerts, tide times, vehicle-access conditions, and safety notices before travelling.

- Access to beaches is subject to K’gari park regulations, vehicle-access conditions and local safety requirements.
- Visitors must follow the instructions of Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers, tour guides and authorised personnel.
- Visitors should remain on designated beach-access routes and approved visitor areas.
- Four-wheel-drive vehicles must comply with applicable vehicle, driving, permit and beach-access regulations.
- Visitors must drive according to posted speed limits and prevailing beach conditions.
- Swimming is strongly discouraged in many areas because of strong currents, marine hazards and other coastal risks; visitors should follow local safety advice and signage.
- Visitors must never approach, feed, chase or deliberately disturb dingoes or other wildlife.
- Food and rubbish must be stored securely to avoid attracting wildlife.
- Littering, vandalism and damage to vegetation, dunes or other natural features are prohibited.
- Visitors must not remove sand, shells, rocks, plants or other natural materials where prohibited.
- Camping is permitted only in authorised camping areas and subject to the applicable permits and conditions.
- Fires are permitted only where specifically authorised and are subject to current fire restrictions.
- Children must remain under the supervision of an accompanying adult, particularly near the ocean and vehicle-access areas.
- Visitors should exercise caution around tides, strong surf, unstable dunes, changing weather and isolated beach areas.
- Visitors should carry adequate water, sun protection and suitable clothing when spending time on remote beaches.
- Photography for personal use is generally permitted, subject to park and wildlife restrictions.
- Commercial photography, professional filming or organised photo shoots may require prior permission.
- Beach access, tracks and camping areas may be temporarily closed because of weather, flooding, erosion, fire danger, conservation activities or safety concerns.
- Visitors are responsible for their personal belongings and safety.
- Guided tours, four-wheel-drive excursions, vehicle hire and camping facilities may have separate booking, permit, cancellation and refund conditions.
- Cancellation and refund conditions depend on the specific tour, activity, vehicle booking or accommodation purchased.
- If Fraser Island/K’gari beaches are included in an organised Queensland tour, the tour operator's cancellation and refund policy will apply.
- If a tour is cancelled or the itinerary is modified because of weather, road or beach conditions, park closures, tides or safety requirements, refund or alternative arrangements will be handled according to the operator's terms.
- Late arrival or failure to join a booked tour may result in loss of the booking without refund, subject to the provider's conditions.
Cancellation Policy
The beaches of K’gari (Fraser Island) are natural public areas and do not generally require an admission ticket or reservation for general sightseeing. Therefore, no separate cancellation or refund policy applies to visiting the beaches. If the beach visit is included as part of a guided tour, 4WD excursion, ferry service, or travel package, the cancellation and refund conditions of the respective booking or service provider will apply.
