  1. Valid Ticket: Visitors must have a valid admission ticket or authorized pass to enter Edinburgh Castle.
  2. Timed Entry: Standard tickets are for a specific date and time. Visitors should arrive within the time stated on their ticket. Tickets are strongly recommended to be booked in advance as they can sell out.
  3. Security Checks: Visitors and their belongings may be subject to security screening at the castle entrance.
  4. Luggage Restrictions: Suitcases and large backpacks of 30 litres or more are not permitted. The castle does not provide luggage storage for visitors.
  5. Visitor Conduct: Visitors must behave respectfully, follow staff instructions and comply with all safety notices and site regulations.
  6. Protection of Heritage: Visitors must not touch, damage, climb on or otherwise interfere with historic buildings, monuments, exhibits or archaeological features.
  7. Photography: Personal photography is generally permitted, subject to restrictions in certain areas. Professional or commercial photography and filming may require prior permission.
  8. Children: Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults are responsible for supervising children throughout the visit.
  9. Animals: Only assistance dogs are permitted within the castle. Assistance dogs must remain on a lead and must not be left unattended.
  10. Accessibility: Accessibility facilities are available, including a mobility vehicle to Crown Square and wheelchairs subject to availability. However, some routes are steep, cobbled and uneven because of the historic nature of the site.
  11. Guided Tours: Official guided tours require advance booking and include castle admission. Visitors must arrive at the tour meeting point 15 minutes before the scheduled tour time.
  12. Weather Conditions: Certain tours or outdoor activities may be adapted or cancelled in poor weather conditions.
  13. Closures: Certain attractions or areas may occasionally be closed because of maintenance, restoration, official events, security requirements or operational reasons.
  14. Opening & Last Entry: Edinburgh Castle opens from 9:30 AM daily. Last entry is one hour before closing. The castle is closed on 25 and 26 December.
  15. Ticket Changes & Refunds: Ticket amendments, cancellations and refunds are subject to the applicable Historic Environment Scotland ticket terms and conditions.
Cancellation Policy
 Edinburgh Castle admission tickets are generally non-refundable. Where availability permits, bookings may be amended to another date in accordance with the applicable booking conditions. If an official guided tour is cancelled by Edinburgh Castle due to poor weather, the tour ticket price will be automatically refunded. If the Castle or a booked service is cancelled by Historic Environment Scotland, visitors will be provided with applicable rebooking or refund arrangements. Group and travel-trade bookings are subject to separate terms and conditions.
