Terms & Conditions
  1. Valid Ticket: Since 1 July 2026, tourist visitors must have a valid admission ticket to visit the interior of Cologne Cathedral. Entry for church services, personal prayer or lighting a candle remains free.
  2. Opening Hours: Tourist visits are generally available Monday–Saturday from 10:00 to 17:45 and Sundays and church holidays from 13:30 to 16:30. Last admission is earlier than closing time.
  3. Security Checks: Visitors should be prepared for identity and security checks when entering the Cathedral, Treasury or Tower.
  4. Baggage Restrictions: Only small bags and day backpacks up to 40 × 35 × 15 cm are permitted. Suitcases, trolleys, hiking backpacks and other large luggage are not allowed and cannot be stored at the Cathedral.
  5. Respectful Conduct: Visitors must respect the Cathedral as a sacred place. Loud talking, running and disruptive behaviour are prohibited. Visitors must follow instructions from Cathedral staff.
  6. Food, Drinks & Smoking: Eating and drinking are prohibited inside the Cathedral. Smoking and e-cigarettes are also prohibited throughout the building.
  7. Photography: Photography without flash and video recording without additional equipment are permitted for private purposes outside services. Private photo shoots are prohibited, and tripods require prior permission.
  8. Drones: Drones and other unmanned aircraft are prohibited inside the Cathedral and in its exterior area.
  9. Animals: Animals are not permitted inside the Cathedral, except where specifically permitted under applicable regulations.
  10. Tower Visit: The South Tower requires a separate ticket and involves climbing 533 steps; there is no lift. Children must be able to climb the stairs independently and remain accompanied according to the applicable age rules.
  11. Access Changes: Opening hours and visitor access may be restricted or changed due to services, construction, security requirements or special events.
Cancellation Policy
  1. Visits to the cathedral itself are generally free of charge, so there is no standard admission-ticket cancellation policy for ordinary visits.
  2. For guided tours and other bookable services, cancellation and refund conditions depend on the specific service and booking.
  3. If a booked tour or service is cancelled by the Cathedral or the organiser, any applicable refund is handled according to the relevant booking conditions.
