Activity Policies
- Visitors must follow all safety instructions and directions from Falkirk Wheel staff.
- Visitors taking a boat trip must remain seated or in designated areas as instructed by the crew.
- Children must remain under the supervision of an accompanying adult.
- Visitors should not enter restricted operational areas or interfere with the machinery.
- Cycling and walking are permitted only on designated routes around the site.
- Dogs are welcome in outdoor areas but must be kept under control; assistance dogs are permitted where applicable.
- Visitors should keep the site clean and dispose of waste responsibly.
- Boat trips and outdoor activities may be altered, delayed or cancelled due to weather, maintenance or safety requirements.
- Visitors must respect the canal environment, machinery and other guests.
Terms & Conditions
- Valid Ticket: Visitors taking a boat trip must have a valid ticket. Tickets are required for every passenger, including children under 5.
- Opening Hours: The visitor attraction is generally open 7 days a week, 9:45 AM to 5:30 PM, subject to seasonal and operational changes.
- Boat Trips: Boat trips operate according to the published schedule and are subject to availability, weather and operational conditions.
- Safety Instructions: Visitors must follow all instructions and safety requirements given by Scottish Canals staff.
- Weather Conditions: Boat trips and outdoor activities may be altered, postponed or cancelled because of adverse weather or other safety conditions.
- Visitor Conduct: Visitors must behave responsibly and must not interfere with the operation of the Wheel, boats, locks or other canal infrastructure.
- Children: Children must remain under the supervision of an accompanying adult throughout the visit and during boat trips.
- Dogs: The Falkirk Wheel is dog friendly; however, specific activities or boat trips may have their own conditions.
- Accessibility: Dedicated Blue Badge parking spaces are available close to the Visitor Centre. The visitor facilities are designed to accommodate visitors with accessibility requirements, although some areas may have individual limitations.
- Photography: Personal photography is generally permitted, provided it does not interfere with visitor safety or the operation of the attraction.
- Parking: Parking is available at the site and charges may apply. Visitors must follow the designated parking arrangements and signage.
- Waterway Safety: Access to the controlled waters of the Falkirk Wheel is regulated by Scottish Canals. Boat users must follow directions from the Basin Controller and authorised staff.
- Restricted Areas: Visitors must not enter operational areas, restricted canal zones or areas marked as staff-only.
- Temporary Closures: The Wheel, boat trips or individual activities may be temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, technical issues, weather, safety requirements or other operational circumstances.
- Personal Belongings: Visitors are responsible for their personal belongings. Scottish Canals may not accept responsibility for loss or damage to property.
Cancellation Policy
Falkirk Wheel boat-trip tickets are subject to the booking terms and conditions of Scottish Canals. Visitors should check the cancellation conditions applicable to their specific booking. If Scottish Canals cancels a boat trip due to operational, weather, safety or other circumstances beyond the visitor’s control, the operator will provide the applicable rebooking or refund arrangements.
