Le Prince Maurice represents a new generation of 5-star luxury

The Mauritian Hotel Association is grateful to the PRINCE MAURICE
of ancient times for the creation of the spice route. It is after
this member of the Dutch royal family that our island was named
Mauritius. Today, however, the market of the Indian Ocean islands
has grown far beyond the quest for spices, leading to a demand
for more knowledge about this exotic region itself.
In November 1998 Mauritius has revived its history by inaugurating
Le Prince Maurice Hotel, which represents a new generation
of 5-star luxury hotels.
The style of this hotel moves away from over- decorated palaces
towards a fresher and more relaxed concept of harmony with
nature and simplicity of décor. Its tropical gardens are of
rare and lush vegetation and the calm turquoise of the lagoon
blends in perfectly with the fresh green hinterland.
Le Prince Maurice is located on the north east coast of the island,
15 minutes from the airport by helicopter and 35 km from the capital
Port Louis. The hotel has been built on a wind sheltered spot
and ensures maximum privacy to its guests.
Elegant and natural building materials such as marble, wood and
stone as well as an architecture allowing water, space and light
to play create an atmosphere of comfort. The concept reflects
the Asian way of life, enriched with Mauritian smiles and hospitality.

This is evident right from the arrival, as the hotel has no reception
area or cashier's desk - guests are just guests, and formalities
are minimal and conducted privately. The service at Le Prince

The set-up of the hotel, 88 suites spread over 60 hectares and
4 beaches, provides for a uniquely personal standard of service
and care. The hotel is situated on a sheltered coral sand beach
with a private lagoon. The suites are in two categories Senior
and Junior. They are scattered along the pristine beach, in landscaped
gardens, on waterways, and even suspended on site over the lagoon.
Each cluster of suites nestles amidst aromatic gardens providing
a heaven of seduction and tranquillity. Designed with total
respect for the islands heritage, the suites consist mainly
of natural materials, especially wood, granite and thatch.

even the most sophisticated guests at the Prince Maurice
All suites are spacious, air conditioned and fully equipped with
the amenities expected by world-class 5 star standards. They feature
massive wooden furnishings decorated in colours reflecting the
"Spice Route" theme of the hotel. The Senior Suites each feature
a conventional interior bathroom as well as a stylish exterior
walled bathing area, a waterfall shower cascading into a Jacuzzi
bath, surrounded by pebble gardens and flowers. Each Senior Suite
has a large terrace and some added advantage of a private pool.
Three of them are built on stilts, overlooking the calm lagoon.
The entrance to the Hotel a towering portal is followed by bridges
spanning palm-studded waters. A pool stretches towards the lagoon,
the waters seeming to blend into each other. A variety of shops
and a tranquil library lead to an elegant lounge bar. One of the
restaurants is suspended over the pool, facing the lagoon. Another
one is floating on quiet waters, providing serene views of the
lagoon and the mountains against the setting sun, as guests enjoy
freshly prepared seafood and grilled specialties.
If all of this becomes too much, the fitness centre offers relaxing
massages, an outdoor atrium pool and an atmosphere of privacy
and luxury. Le Prince Maurice provides refreshment and refinement
in the midst of a healthy and relaxing environment on one of the
most beautiful islands on earth.
The Prince Maurice is a member of Relais & Chateau and
includes the exclusive Guerlain Beauty Centre, at the Fitness
and Health Centre, a spa with innumerable sports and activities.
Some of the hotel's notable distinctions include classification
as the Fourth Ranked World Class Hotel by Le Figaro Magazine and
ranked number one by Hide Away in 2003 (France); it has received
the "Editor's Choice Award" by the British "Gallivander's Guide"
where it was noted as one of the 8 best hotels in the world. In
summer 2001, it was featured on the cover of the US "Premier Hotel
& Resorts" Magazine.
Golfers can enjoy the two 18-hole championship course shared with
the sister hotel at Belle Mare Plage. The sport is complimentary
as is the shuttle transport.

to the central lobby over bridges spanning palm-studded water
displays. A pool stretches towards the lagoon, the waters

This, in turn, leads to the restaurant, which is in three
sections; each suspended over the pool, facing the lagoon.
A unique floating restaurant provides serene views of the
lagoon and the mountains against the setting sun, as guests
enjoy freshly-prepared seafoods and grills.
